Renting our teleprompter / autocue kit? Check out our setup & how-to guide below.
Tips for Preparing Your Script
Your script should be setup in plain text without formatting (ie. no bold, underline or italic text); the app will strip formatting from your document. Using a simple-text editor like Notepad (on Windows) or Textedit (on Mac) to prepare your script will likely work best.
If there’s pauses in your script, we recommend pressing ‘enter’ a few times to space out the text, as this will create a ‘gap’ in the text when copied into the teleprompter app, and won’t stuff-up the timing for whoever is reading the script when it comes to filming.
To get the script onto the provided Android tablet, you can email it there. Simply send your script text to (email provided upon request) and you can use the Gmail app on the tablet to retrieve it. We recommend pasting your script text into the email body – rather than attaching anything to the email.
Setting up the Teleprompter Stand
Instructions are provided with the kit, but it’s quite easy! Simply attach the tray to the top of the provided stand. Gently place the mirrored glass into the stand – please be careful, as the special glass is quite expensive & any breakages must be paid for.
When done, place your iPad (or the included Android tablet) into the tray. There’s also an optional black cover to use between the camera and glass – in case there’s glare or reflections in your shooting location.
If you’re doing a lot of reading, it might be worth keeping the tablet on charge (nb. the provided tablet uses USB-C; you’ll need to provide your own charger).
Using the Tablet & App
Once powered on, log into the tablet using the code provided. On the home screen you’ll see a shortcut to Gmail, as well as the teleprompter app. Open Gmail to grab your script text, copy it… then paste into the teleprompter app.
We recommend pasting it in 5 or 6 times (with gaps in between) – that way, you don’t have to keep walking up to the tablet and restarting the script from the top if you want to do 5 or 6 takes in one go.
In the teleprompter app, you can control things like speed, flipping the text or mirroring it, and so on.
To put the tablet into sleep mode, tap the power button briefly. To turn it off completely, hold the power button down for a second or so, and select the ‘Shutdown’ option.
